SIMHA Deputy Chair resigns from new Somali media council

Mogadishu, June 2016 – The deputy chairman of the Somali Independent Media Houses Association (SIMHA) resigned from the new Somali Media Council due to what he termed as “immense interference from the Ministry of information”.

SIMHA had earlier warned about the formation of council and urged the Ministry to guarantee its independence. It had also voiced concerns about how the media regulator had been formed without “prior consultations with free media representatives”. It urged the Federal government of Somalia to come up with a more consultative and transparent process.
