Victor Bwire (Deputy, CEO Media Council of Kenya),
VICTOR Bwire is is the Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Programmes Manager at the Media Council of Kenya. In addition to managing the programmes portfolio at the Council, he runs trainings on safety and protection of journalists, specialised reporting and emerging issues in the media in Kenya and the East and Great Horn of Africa. He has consulted on media relations, speech writing, copy editing and communication strategies, advocacy and journalists’ safety and protection in Africa. He previously worked at ARTICLE 19 covering 10 African countries on journalists safety and media freedoms, has been a writer for the Nation Media Group and The Standard as well as being a Communications Officer at the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights. He has taught at the United States International University (USIU), Mt. Kenya University, Technical University of Kenya and the Great Lakes University in science communication and advocacy, news writing, media law and communication ethics and editing. He is a founding editor of the K’ógalo and Kenyan Rugby Inc, magazines. Victor holds an MA in Communication and Media Studies, Post- Graduate Diploma in Mass Communication and a BA from the University of Nairobi. He also holds a Post- Graduate Diploma in Environmental Journalism and Communication from Makerere University, Uganda. He is a certified physical safety, first aid and emotional self- care trainer for journalists.
