Abidjan, June 2016 – Studies have revealed that tens of millions of people consume palm wine worldwide on a daily basis. However, in countries like Uganda, it is not such a popular drink despite the expansive production of palm trees for cooking oil. Ugandan journalist Remmy Bahati was in Cote d’Ivoire, the leading palm wine manufacturer in the world, and explored the process of natural palm wine-making as well as the challenges farmers and brewers are undergoing as they strive to make a living. She produced this video on the sidelines of a journalism workshop in Abidjan organized jointly by the African Media Initiative and the World Bank.
