Yet this technology creates enormous opportunities for innovative media companies and public service journalism.
Mobile and the digitization of radio in particular offers the opportunity to distribute content to ever-wider audiences. Africa, with radio and mobile phones as dominant platforms, is at the nexus of this upheaval. Realizing these opportunities will take a deeper understanding of technology adaptation among African media owners and operators, especially for small and medium-sized companies. This will require new partnerships and business models that bring together traditional media players and innovators.
